Whisperer Boss Guide

Whisperer is one of the DT2 bosses that combines prayer switching, movement, and shadow realm mechanics. This guide explains how to get there, recommended gear, fight mechanics, and tips for the awakened version.

How to Get There

  1. Use the teleport tree at ::home.
  2. Search for Whisperer and teleport directly to her arena.
  3. Speak to Ketla outside the arena to obtain a black stone fragment, which is required during the fight to enter the shadow realm.

Inventory

  • Food (anglers and karambwans)
  • Super restores
  • Saturated/imbued heart
  • Venator bow or blowpipe
  • Ice barrage or blitz in pouch

Preparing for the Fight

The black stone fragment will light up in your inventory to indicate when to enter the shadow realm. Whisperer will disappear and reappear elsewhere in the arena just beforehand too.

Familiarize yourself with prayer switching and movement for the projectile patterns and tentacle attacks.

  • Use the Ancient spellbook with an ice spell to freeze Whisperer after her special attacks
  • Consider bringing a Venator Bow for the soul phase if available. Blowpipe works just as well too though.
Base attacks

Attack patterns:

  • Upon beginning the fight, she will only use Magic (M) or Ranged (R) for all three projectiles.
  • After one special attack has been used, she will use M-M-R or R-R-M
  • After all three special attacks have been used, she will use M-R-M or R-M-R
  • During her enrage phase, she will start with ranged, and switch styles every two attacks.

The Fight

Starting the Fight

Equip your magic gear and activate Protect from Magic or Protect from Missiles as appropriate. Prepare to freeze Whisperer after she uses her special attacks.

Projectiles and Tentacles

Whisperer shoots 3 projectiles during the fight (excluding the enrage phase):

  • At the start: 3 magic or 3 ranged attacks
  • After a special attack: 2 magic + 1 ranged or 2 ranged + 1 magic
  • After all three special attacks: magic-range-magic or range-magic-range

During the enrage phase:

  • She starts with ranged attacks and switches every two attacks
  • After every 3 attacks (or 2 in enrage), vines appear from the floor. Move off the tile immediately to avoid damage

Special Attacks

Shadow Realm Phase

When Whisperer disappears, the black stone fragment lights up.

After each special attack, whisperer will freeze you in place and track you down to hit you hard. To avoid this, when she freezes you, freeze her back with ice barrage or blitz.

Click it to enter the shadow realm and deal with one of the following mechanics:

Screech Attack

Whisperer damages pillars with a powerful screech (3 times). Stand behind the pillar with the least health first, then rotate to the next weakest. You cannot stay behind the strongest pillar throughout; rotate as needed so the strongest survives until the final screech.

Rotating Pillars During Screech Attack
Soul Attack

Souls spawn that chant specific words. Prioritize killing them:

Soul Effect
Vita! (2 yellow souls) Restores ~20% hitpoints
Oratio! (3 blue souls) Restores ~20% prayer points
Sanitas! (3 cyan souls) Restores ~15% sanity
Mors! (4 green souls) Deals 50 damage to Whisperer (75 if all 12 souls are killed)

Tip: The Venator Bow is excellent for hitting grouped souls. Blowpipe is great too.

Corrupted Seeds

Orbs light up across the arena. Run over all lit orbs before the timer ends.

Examples of Corrupted Seed Patterns

Enrage Phase

Attacks become faster. Projectiles now fire in pairs (e.g., 2 ranged, then 2 magic). Tentacle vine attacks occur more frequently (every 2 attacks). Keep moving in a pattern to avoid tentacles and continue freezing Whisperer after her special attacks.

Move in an L shape to every time a tentacle spawns to avoid damage (i.e. move 2 tiles in any direction then 1 tile left or right)

Awakened Version

The awakened Whisperer is significantly more challenging:

  • Increased health (~2,800 HP)
  • Projectiles are faster and prayer switches must be perfect as to not drain your sanity
  • Tentacle attacks are nearly constant during the enrage phase
  • Shadow realm phases occur more often and require tighter timing (each special happens 2 times)

Attack patterns:

Her regular attack now consists of five projectiles rather than three. Upon beginning the fight, she will use two of one style and three of the other (e.g Ranged -> Ranged -> Magic -> Magic -> Magic) After two special attacks, she will use one of one style, two of the other, and then two of the first style (e.g. Ranged -> Magic -> Magic -> Ranged -> Ranged) After the seventh special attack, she will alternate between both styles per hit.

Awakened Whisperer tiles

Tentacle attacks now come from more directions and you have to move in an L shape to avoid them throughout the fight.

Sanity Preservation is extremely important in the awakened version as if your sanity reaches 0 you take increasingly more damage over time, and you will die.

Here are some tips to preserve your sanity throughout the fight:

  • Ensure you are praying correctly throughout the fight, this can easily derail the run as it will quickly drain your sanity
  • On corrupted seed special attacks, use the blackstone fragment to find out the pattern then immediately get out of the shadow realm. This saves some sanity
  • Screech attack, try to remember the pillar order to save sanity
  • Once you have killed the desired souls, exit the shadow realm
  • Prioritise prayers in the enrage phase and dodging
