Preparing for the fight

Alchemical Hydra is a multi-phase boss that changes colour as it progresses through the fight. It requires careful prayer switching and positioning to handle its attacks.

The fight is considered relatively easy once you learn the mechanics, but it is highly recommended to use a Scythe for speed. A Blowpipe or Tbow can also work as an alternative for ranged users.

How to get there

  • Use the Teleport Tree at ::home and select the Hydra option.
  • Run through the corridor to enter Hydra’s lair.

Inventory

  • **Sanfew Serum** (for poison and stat restore)
  • **Super combat potion** (melee) or **Bastion potion** (ranged)
  • **Food:** Sharks or better
  • **Teleport tab** (in case of emergency)
  • **SWH/BGS/DWH/Elder** to lower defence

Fight guide

Hydra starts with magic or range at random, but following the initial hit the attack pattern is 3 attacks before alternating to the other prayer.

Caveat: if hydra changes form after 2 range attacks, he will switch early to magic attacks but then repeat 3 attack cycle.

At the enrage phase however, he alternates every single attack.

Hydra shoots a spike at you.

Magic attack

Hydra uses a blood spell on you.

The fight consists of **four phases**, each represented by Hydra’s colour:

Green phase

No special mechanics, but also starts with 3 of the same attack style, then shoots toxic balls at you, move away to avoid poison damage or use a sanfew if you are hit.

Blue phase (Lightning)

  • Hydra launches electric attacks that leave trails of lightning across the room.

You are generally ok to over heal and just tank the electricity attack without wasting too much food.

Red phase (Fire)

  • Hydra creates fire walls that can trap you.

This phase can be skipped (although Hydra will remain red until you lower his health enough, you can prevent him from using the fire attack)

Fire phase skip

The fire phase can be skipped to make the fight much faster:

1. During the Blue phase (lightning), move Hydra to the southeast corner of the room by running to the highlighted tile. 2. Let Hydra walk toward you to continue attacking. 3. Once it changes to the Red phase (fire):

  * Wait for Hydra to attack 3 times.  
  * Just as it begins to turn around, land a hit to re-focus it on you.  
  * Run back to the southeast corner after hitting it to redirect it's focus. 
  * This cancels the fire phase mechanics entirely.  

4. Continue attacking until the Black phase, praying according to it's magic or ranged attacks.

Black phase (Enrage)

In the enrage (black) phase, hydra alternates his attacks every hit (i.e. range, mage, range, mage)

    • You must switch prayers after EVERY attack.
